Mechanical electrical & controls
Connect the plant to the way it needs to run.
Winter AC provides in-house electrical for mechanical and controls capability for commercial HVAC, ventilation and refrigeration projects. We help coordinate the electrical and control work required for new installations, plant replacements and fault investigation.
How we can help
- Plant electrical connections
- Controls & BMS interfaces
- Fault finding & commissioning
Set the electrical and controls boundaries early
Mechanical plant needs more than a power connection. The operating sequence, sensors, alarms, interfaces and responsibility for final testing need to be understood before work starts.
We review the mechanical and electrical documents together and clarify the split between our work, the project electrician, controls contractor and any specialist supplier. This is particularly important where a plant replacement connects to an existing BMS.
Scope we can coordinate
- Electrical supplies and isolation for agreed mechanical equipment.
- Wiring and connections for fans, pumps, air conditioning and refrigeration plant.
- Control devices, sensors and operating interfaces within the agreed scope.
- BMS-related works, with specialist access and integration requirements confirmed.
- Fault diagnosis across mechanical, electrical and control components.
- Functional checks and commissioning support for the specified operating sequence.
Plant replacement and BMS integration
Before replacing equipment, establish what the building system currently controls and monitors. New plant may offer different interfaces or require changes to sensors, alarms and control sequences.
We coordinate the required points and functions with the controls provider. Proprietary software, licences, network access and third-party programming are confirmed for the project; universal compatibility should not be assumed.
Find the cause of recurring faults
An equipment alarm or an uncomfortable space can be caused by several parts of the system. Our team can investigate relevant mechanical and electrical operation, review the observed control response and identify the next steps.
For a service enquiry, include the symptoms, fault codes, affected equipment, timing of the issue and any recent changes. Existing wiring diagrams or controls information are useful where available.
Test the operating result
Commissioning requirements should explain how plant will be enabled, controlled, stopped and monitored, including the relevant interlocks and alarms. We agree who carries out and witnesses each part of the testing.
Handover information and electrical documentation are provided for the work within the agreed scope. General residential and commercial electrical enquiries can also be made through our electrical services page.
Your questions, answered
Can you work with our existing controls contractor?
Yes. We agree the points of responsibility, required information, access and commissioning arrangements with the project team and existing controls provider.
Do you support every BMS brand?
Support depends on the installed platform, available access, licensing and the work required. Send the system details so we can confirm what our team can deliver and any specialist involvement.
Can you quote the electrical work with the mechanical package?
Yes. Provide the mechanical and electrical information together, including equipment schedules, controls requirements and the intended division of responsibilities. We identify any missing information or exclusions.
Can you work with our existing BMS provider?
Yes. Identify the provider and the required interface at the start. Access, programming, licensing, points lists and witnessed testing responsibilities need to be agreed between the parties.
Do you provide electrical support for plant replacement?
Yes. We can assess the electrical and controls scope associated with HVAC, ventilation and refrigeration plant replacement, including supplies, isolation, control wiring and interfaces. Any switchboard or upstream supply work is identified separately in the proposal.
Tell us what you need
Let’s discuss your building.
Include the plant details, mechanical and electrical drawings, BMS platform if known, required control functions and the project timeframe.
Based in Ngauranga, our team works across Wellington City, Lower Hutt, Upper Hutt, Porirua and Kāpiti. For Wairarapa and projects further afield, contact us so coverage and ongoing support can be agreed.
